Locking tuners mean that string changing should be very easy. Push the string through the body, pull through the hole in the locking tuner peg finger tight then turn the locking mechanism to grip the string and snip off the excess string.

Not sure why that is a thing... but I guess for convenience. Maybe thinner strings slip more if not secured? Anyway, thank you for the explanation.
