Default Clear pickguard recommendations for Rainsong?

I have a CH-OM that is starting to show a few scratches from strumming (hey, I can't help myself and I get excited when I play it - what can I say? ). But seriously - it's not that bad...but I don't want it to get worse.

I like the concept of those super thin static cling jobs but I've never used (or even seen) one. Would that do the job or are they meant more for temporary use? I kind of hate the idea of affixing this big permanent hunk of plastic to the guitar.

What have you all used on your Rainsongs?

I used the static cling guards and they worked fine for me, now if you are doing Townshend windmill strumming, I'm not sure how they would hold up. They are pretty tuff and cheap to replace.

I have used those cling-on pick guards, and they do just fine. I did put one on the RS Shorty I had, but found it wasn't an issue - took it off. Other than light reflecting off it, it was basically invisible.

I use a black static kling-0n on my CH-OM, it works fine and it blends well with the rest of the top.

I had custom static cling pickguards for 12 fret RainSongs made by an online print shop. My order number was 577970 at SmartPress.com. PM me and I'll send you one. In most lighting they are very hard to see. Some pictures:

The Taylor static cling pick guard fits the sound hole perfectly but won't reach all the way to the bridge.

I got one of these from jonfields45 this summer and it works quite well. Of course, mine got shredded up from my (perhaps wine-fueled, overenthusiastic) strumming at our traditional Thanksgiving jam session!

I don't use the cling-on (Klingon?) pick guard material. But to preclude top scratches, I almost immediately bought some clear pick guard material from my local store and cut it to a pleasant shape, to my eye. Mine looks a lot like Jonfield's, but with a flat bottom by the bridge. That PG has been on my WS-1000 for about 17 years now. Being much softer than the clear coat, it shows some scratches, mostly put there by others test driving my guitar, but not nearly enough to bother with replacing it.

If you'd like, PM me your address and I'll send another. I get about a year out of a static cling pick guard before I decide it looks too ratty to use.

I have the same on my CA GX and now regret not getting something sooner. I assume the finish is some kind of urethane--can it be polished to get rid of light scratches, and if so what's the best way, before I get a pick guard?

Yes it can be polished using an automotive finish compound (the ones that are sold for light scratches).
