Not just the car?

If you take a look at his team mates results you can see exactly what a difference driving the best car makes.

Bottas had 4 years with Williams before joining Mercedes - in that 4 years he achieved 0 wins, 9 podiums and 1 fastest lap.

In his 4 years at Mercedes he has 9 wins, 35 podiums and 14 fastest laps.

That's the difference with a top car.

I still want to see what Lewis can do in a Williams.

Here's a nice article that summarizes both sides of the "Hamilton - car or driver" argument.

Interesting race at Imola today. A lot of wacky action in the last few laps of what was predicted to be a boring race. I was grateful for the SkySports commentators, who managed to keep the tire management strategies and pit timing issues in clear focus.

I'm not a big Verstappen fan but Max literally drove the tyres off his car and was unlucky not to be rewarded for his effort.

Bottas on the other hand was unusually ragged there for a while and yet still managed to finish 2nd .... again.

Another podium for Ricciardo brings up the question .. is he leaving Renault too early?

Hamilton declared pre-race that it would probably be a boring race ... but he didn't offer to swap his seat with anyone did he?

I think Hamilton was saying that the track was so narrow that there wouldn’t be much in-race passing, and he was right. Even Martin Brundle was saying that the DRS zone was too short. So, it was a tyre management and pit strategy race.

Discounting Ham, it was great of Kyvat to get on the podium, today.

Hi, Kvyat got a good 4th, but it was Ricciardo in the Renault who joined the Mercedes folk on the podium.

The success of Mercedes may make some feel that it is boring/predictable, and certainly the excitement is in the midfield, but to be fair, Hamilton and Mercedes are, at present, the dream team ..... but it won't last forever, as Williams, Ferrari etc., can witness.

Once it was Ferrari, now not currently competitive, although leClerc did well, and a demotivated Vettel was denied a chance by an appalling pitstop.
I don't have favourites, but I felt very sorry for Max, who seems the best and for George Russell who lost his chance of getting one point for Williams - he was understandably inconsolable.

They ever sort out what happened to Max's tire?

Nothing has been publicly revealed yet. Several other teams noted severely worn right rear tires.
