Default Adding some vibe/low-fi/wobble to recordings

I’ve heard some acoustic recordings which have a cool “old” factor, something like slapback/chorus/wobble, but in a very subtle and natural way that sounds great for intimate ballads or domestic-feel vibe.

What can be added in the recording chain, maybe an Echoplex?

Thanks

Assuming you have a DAW and a delay plugin, play around with the LFO (low frequency oscillator).

From the demos I've seen of the Strymon Deco this unit seems to be doing some of what you're looking for:

There is the recent Echoplex repro pedal, the Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe. It contains a reproduction of the original Echoplex preamp and a digital recreation of the tape drive system, including wow, flutter, tape head bump, and noise. The the tape modulation artifacts and distortion can be blended via a couple of knobs.

To make it a modulation-only effect you would set it down to single delay and blend it over to delay only.

Of course there are numerous plug-ins that do this as well.

Smile Lo Fi Plugin

Just read about a lo-fi plugin that might be the ticket:

https://babyaud.io/super-vhs-multi-fx-plugin

"Super VHS" from Baby Audio. I have not tried it yet; in fact I just found out about it yesterday.

There are all kinds of plugins that reproduce tape, including all the bad stuff, vinyl, including pops and cracks and record warp, etc, and more. Here's one of the latter, for example: https://www.izotope.com/en/products/vinyl.html

But a web search should turn up more.

So funny -- there's tech for adding it, and there's tech for getting rid of it. It's like Steven Wright's bit about the humidifier and the dehumidifier. Lock them in a room together and let 'em duke it out.

Any tape emulation plug-in should let you do what you want. You want tape saturation and warble.

The Waves one is fine and often is like $29
