1943 Gibson L-00, Unique Wartime build, price drop to $2700
Edited on 1/11/20 to reflect:
- Price drop to $2700. - Link to a short demo: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OHc...ew?usp=sharing Edited on 1/5/20 to reflect: - Change in status to For Sale only; no longer interested in trades. - Sale price dropped to $3000. Here’s a cool and unique wartime build from Gibson (perhaps worked by some Kalamazoo gals?) reflecting the scarcity of materials during that period. This L-00 was constructed using: Adirondack Spruce top Mahogany back Flamed Maple bass side (top) Curly Maple treble side (bottom) Indications point to 1943 as the build year. The FON is faded and unreadable, and the only clear marking is a “Z” (?) centered under the sound hole. Original top sunburst finish, original fire stripe pickguard. X-braced top, scalloped top bracing, no truss rod. Bound sides, both top & back. Refinished back and sides, feels like French polish. Refinished neck and headstock a bit glossier. Clean chunky neck with 1 ¾” nut. Replaced bridge & bridge plate. Period correct Kluson tuners installed, holds tune well. Several top cracks professionally repaired. Three tiny holes (for a trapeze?) on butt end. Wood filler applied to fret board on in cowboy chord territory (see pic) Action at the 12th fret is around 2/16” on both treble and bass sides. Recently setup, and plays and sounds great. K&K Mini is installed and sounds fab amplified - this guitar is gig-ready. Non-original 6-latch plush hard shell case. This L-00 has been played a lot in 75+ years, and despite its “character” has been well-cared over time. Clearly this guitar is not a museum piece but it’s a beautiful example of a wartime Gibson. It is particularly sweet for finger style playing. I so want to love this guitar but the neck just is just too chunky for my left hand. I’d rather pass it on to someone else who can love it unconditionally. Sale price $2700 Plus $100 shipping CONUS I’ll be glad to address all questions and offers, or send more pictures as requested. I'll second that! I am really starting to like these older Gibson and the warm vibe they display. Cool guitar.
