Right, but that's the hard part (for me at least), getting them to work right consistently.

My post was saying that changing the strings is not hard. That’s what the original post was about. It wasn’t about whether strings are going dead. Again it sounds like you know how to change them fairly easily. But you’re having trouble with getting what is most likely a set of defective strings more than once.

Bend the string excess upwards, then coil it. Cut off the coil once you bring the strings to full tension.

Yeah, but it's not that far past moot to begin with. I've been using round core strings on my electrics for years and on a couple of acoustics, and it's just not hard to do.

I have a sneaking suspicion that 90% of the members here would find something wrong with how 90% of us changed strings.
Ex: "Never, put the string through the eye without it being perpendicular to the frets!!" or "I didn't just see you grab the ball with your bare hands, right???" or my favorite: "Hmmm...so you went ahead with three full wraps, huh?" |

Do you wait to cut until that particular string is tuned to pitch or all of the strings? I just do it once that string is tuned.

Wow...short and sweet. That's my vote for the winning answer. Thank you very much!

I may have been playing for a long time, but one can always learn something new. I put on some Sunbeams this morning, bringing them tight before cutting, and had no problem. It even makes more sense to do that with the UNWOUND strings! Maybe it depends on the brand of string, but there wasn't that much excess to deal with doing it this way. Thanks to all for the input.
