Default NGD: Gibson G-00 (Generation Collection)

Not to steal jricc's thunder who posted a NGD earlier for the model, but I also got one of my own today.

My local independent shop got all but the G-200 in stock right after the announcements and today I went to check them out. The G-Writer was very balanced, the G-45 had the nice trademark Gibby thump, and the G-00 was a bit of a conundrum. The shop was shipped three of them and they all sounded very different: the first was underwhelming, the second a bit bright, and the third was loud, more balanced, and had a more pronounced low-end rumble. As I wasn't in the market for a larger guitar, I took the third G-00 home today.

The Player Port is probably my favorite feature because it allows me to look inside at the bracing.

Congrats on the new stable mate!

As I read your description of the 3 OOs, I think of all the bandwidth spent on comparing tonewoods, body shapes, makers…etc.

You nicely showed how even the same maker, same shape, same woods can be very different, and the need to play ‘em first

Jeremy, Congrats on the G-00! Best part is that you were able to pick the best of the lot. Assuming that the third G-00 wasn't in the shop, would you have bought the second G-00, or another Generation Collection?

Congrats on your new G-00 Jeremy. Lovely figuring of the walnut back.
You really can see a lot through the port, for example, make sure the ball ends of the strings are properly seated

Thanks, Dru. I was actually going to buy the second one until the store manager offered to pull the third out of the stockroom and let me pick my favorite.

Thank you! This is why I always prefer to buy in person. Thankfully my local shop does a good job of stocking great guitars.

Thank you. I like the G-00 better than the L-00 Studio.

Thanks, Joe! I've long been fascinated by what's "under the hood" of a guitar, so this peep hole is nice.
