Default Really bummed - I got a cut

I cut the tip of my finger trying to get a stuck blade out of a food processor. Don't worry, wasn't plugged in and it's not that bad. It just happens to be right on the tip of my fretting hand middle finger. Bad news for me, I'm right at the tail end of working up 2 new pieces that require a lot of practice and I've got gigs coming up.

Any suggestions of how I can get it to heal quicker?

You might try Epoxy.

that stinks!

I have had enough mishaps just like yours, and one or two of those times, stiches were needed.

That's the worse place to get the cut too.

I would get some Neosporin, and load that stuff in the area of the cut and cover it with a band aid before bedtime. and keep it covered and cleaned as much as possible for the first 4 or 5 days.

the liquid bandage can help it stay sealed too. But that Neosporin stuff works really good too.

it will take at least 7 days for that thing to be remotely usable.. What a DRAG!!!!!!

hope it does not get infected at all, that will prolong everything.

New Skin Liquid bandage is what I use.

Between the farm and working in a machine shop, cuts and scrapes are pretty common for me.
Last week it was pick hand index finger, this week fret hand index finger.

It'll need to be touched up over a couple of days but it works well.

Make sure it doesn't get infected. Assuming you've taken care of that and it doesn't need stitches?

How long before your gigs? And sorry for the cut!

I agree: put Neosporin or bacitracin on it for at least the next 2 or 3 days. When you think the pain is getting in the “manageable” range, paint it with liquid bandage and see how you do with some playing.

I had a nasty, deep cut (serrated bread knife was the culprit) that easily could have taken a couple of stitches on the ring finger of my fretting hand. It was pretty painful, but only part of the cut extended into area that touches the strings. I waited a little more than 2 weeks to return to playing in long (3-4 hour) jams (mostly due to pain). But the Liquid Bandage helped me feel confident that it wouldn’t open up and bleed while I was playing.

Thanks guys. It doesn't need stitches. It's not that bad of a cut, it's just where it is that stinks. Tried to play a little today, not horrible if I get it in just the right spot. I've just got to be careful not to open it back up. Oh well, my guitars already have sweat and tears on them, maybe it's time to complete the picture?

This hobby of being a "hobby chef" and a guitar player is a tough combo I tell you!

Yeah, almost as bad as being a hobby woodworker and guitar player.

Sorry for your troubles j, been there, although I don’t play gigs. Just at church every few weeks. I know you don’t want to hear this, but I just stop playing till it’s reasonable to resume. That for me is the quickest way to heal it. If that’s not an option, the suggestions above are good. Wishing you the best.

There is a very powerful, highly effective topical anesthetic called EMLA cream. If needed you could apply that to the cut before putting the liquid bandage over it. It will usually last around 6 hrs.
You would need a prescription for it.
I hope that’s helpful.

Booze might help kill the pain. And a little blood would show dedication to the music.

oh yea.. the worse "Fine Cutlery" mishap I had was when we bought some Miracle Blades kitchen knives.

I wont go into details but, the butchers knife should be considered a dangerous weapon. that one took 10 stiches on the side of my right hand palm. the scar serves as a reminder about how to not "unbox" sets of knives.
