How many subwoofers are enough?
This is the collection at the front of my control room at work: Three skinny, tall Bag End subs integrated with the bass-managed Bag End surround system, a JBL LSR4312 sub paired with the JBL LSR4328P alternate stereo array, and a KRK 2S2 sub integrated into the soffit-mounted UREI 813B/C main stereo array. Might this be described as being subwoofer poor? I've got George Massenberg's lovely, glassy recording of Linda Rondstadt's What's New on right now. I bought that album for my wife for her recent birthday. It was recorded in 1983 and it is a testament to George that it is so pleasant and smooth sounding despite the production spirit of the age. There's lots of dynamics in the upright bass. I'm comparing it to the big band swing pieces I recently mixed and it certainly gives me something to look up to. Bob

I'm a subwoofer fan. I currently have a Martin Logan Dynamo in my living room and a JBL in my car. The Dynamo isn't as large as I've had in the past, but it's pretty sweet. They probably pale in comparison to yours, Bob, but they serve my purposes well.

I have a pair of Yamaha "studio" monitors on my (recording) PC. No sub. The entertainment system has a Polk sub which is great for movies. Explosions and helicopters are awesome!

We attended a worship conference in Florida a few years back and Bose installed a Line Array (I didn't know they had these) and in a room that seated 1,000 they had two flown arrays and 8 (eight) subwoofers. I lived with earplugs in multiple pockets. I handed them out to team members, and my wife (and used them myself). They were running them hot and featuring them a LOT. At home, I have one on our little Bose 7-1 system (running 5-1), and it's a $99 Polk 10" unit. It is usually set below ˝ volume and fills in the bottom dramatically and cleanly (not just generic muffing around down there). I like your 'collection'. |

By the way, surviving items from the Dead's Wall of Sound are to be auctioned off at Sotheby's. It's your chance to own a piece of history!

Interesting and thanks for the heads up ,,but alas I am not much for memorabilia . Besides I am guessing in this case the parts will not be anywhere near being remotely like the whole
