Not familiar with this one but man you sure got Bob down. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to that.

I'm listening through my laptop so I'm not sure what it sounds like with real speakers but the guitars seem like they need to come up front a little bit more.

Thx Bob. Very much obliged here.

Sage, you are probably making a good call with the mix. It is a live recording, one pass with both vocals and guitar being recorded using the Zoom's "Stereo" mode - no overdubs and no effects. I will have to keep experimenting with the height of the mic stand to get a better balance.

Thanks very much for the comments!

Thx Ranger. I know Bob is hard to cover vocally so I just kinda' like to do my own thing...lol. Thanks so much for the kind comment.

I'm old enough to remember this one, very very nice job!

I listen through Adam Audios w/sub and I think the mix is fine (to my tastes), it's really dry but that suits this Dylan song and the guitar level is good to me, I like the vocals a little out in front.

Well done, and you didn't overdue the Dylan copying, very natural sounding, I liked it!

Hey Rich...Thank you very much for the kind note! Yes, dry is the word! It was a direct recording using the external mics on the Zoom H4n and only normalized in Audacity. No reverb, no eq...just flat everything. I love the tune and I'm glad you know it and enjoyed my version.

Well.,..there you have it.

I am going to do exactly the same thing in the next few days, me, a Zoom H4N and my OM-45 Taz, no effects, no nuttin', and I will be pleased if my results are like yours, natural and clean!!

I have some nice gear but those Zoom's really do a great job when you don't need studio perfect. What was your placement? I sit in a chair with the Zoom on a shelf in front of me, so the Zoom is head high and maybe 18" away, the only balance is the guitar being a little further away from the Zoom. How did you set up?

Really liked it!!

I sit on a bar stool and have the Zoom attached to a mic stand about 16-18" in front of me. Height-wise, the mics are maybe an inch or two below my chin so that would account for the vocals being out front. I'm also trying to learn to sing better with my vocals more prominent and not hiding behind the guitar which is something I've done here and there. I think the balance is a ttiny bit to one side of the stereo field, but heck, I'm happy.

Thanks again Rich! I just watched your video of "I've just seen a face" and loved it! I do that tune as well but you really make it your own. An awesome job as well!

Jody
good job. I didn't think anyone but me played this anymore. One of my favorite semi-obscure Dylan tunes. Why not try Love Minus Zero next ? You'd do a good job with that one too I bet.

Tuffy!!! Thx mate! As a matter of fact...giggle...I do play love minus zero!!!! I will give it a shot when time permits. I love it and got turned on to it when I saw Clapton play it at the Dylan anniversary tv special years ago. Did you happen to catch that one? my favorite line is "...Expecting all the gifts that wisemen bring"!!!!!!!! I mean c'mon, how does one even come UP with a line like that. I guess that's why he's Bob...

I will take your suggestion and run with it...stay tuned...

And thanks for the nice comments!

Very nice job -- the guitar and vocal phrasing sound Dylanesque but without sounding like you were trying to copy him -- that's a tough balance but you got it . . .
