Though I'm no fan of the Avid Company due to my long ago, but unresolved issues RE: their bad customer service & that terrible PTLE "Light Edition" DAW, this is excellent news for many here, Kev.

IMO, Apogee's interface quality is BY FAR the best available in the $500-1500K range, including the best onboard mic preamps & pristine acoustic sound on guitar. Apogee is better than RME's entry-level versions to my ears. I'm a real Apogee/Apple fan - & found that combo (iMac/Logic Pro/Apogee) to be by far the most stable DAW/interface combo I have used - no crashes in 7 years! And let's not forget that the Apogee Duet was one of the truly revolutionary, game-changing pieces of gear of all time! Now, everyone can use it, or the Quartet.

The only trouble in the past was that non-Apple, Windows-using players could not receive the benefits of using Apogee, until now. So this is great news to share Kev.

Of course, Windows-using players will have to upgrade their DAW's to pro level Pro Tools to be able to actually use Apogee interfaces. IMO, the benefits are totally worth that upgrade for many players/recordists.

I was just looking at the Apogee web sight and it appears that in fact people running a Windows system can actually buy the Avid branded hardware and run any DAW that supports ASIO, Core Audio, WDM, MME, or multi-client drivers

But the bad news you will be paying the extra $500 for the PT software.
