that might’ve been me ... that’s something we used to say in the knife collecting hobby ... surprisingly similar to guitars ... you perpetually only need “one more”, and when faced with a dilemma of which to choose, your heart often whispers “get both” ...

"James Jamerson only needed 4."

For the non-bass players: the 5 string electric bass with an extra low 5th string has become a common model variation and some players feel it's necessary to get extra girth and body in their sound.

As a bassist I liked this one from an Italian bassist who's name escapes me at present
"Guitars and Drums Rock
But nothing starts to roll until the bass comes in"

A young Doyle Dykes, about to walk onto the stage with Grandpa Jones:

"Grandpa, we didn't tune up!"

Grandpa Jones' reply, "It's okay, it'll sound like there's more of us!"

Default Chapdelaine

My favorite guitar quote is from Michael Chapdelaine:

"The process of acquiring fine tone will define to you all the things which are possible when the union of your hands, ears, mind and soul with the guitar occurs.

This is not a typewriter or a blender we play.

The guitar is a magic thing with which we can access a very profound level of consciousness and communication not available in our normal existence."

David Gilmour:
"... And as an instrument for solos, you can bend notes, draw emotional content out of tiny movements, vibratos and tonal things which even a piano can't do."

David must never have heard Bill Evans play piano...

As a photographer, I've heard this more than once: "That's a great photo. You must have a really good camera!"

On photography (don't worry it is kinda linked).

A famous photographer was invited to a social gathering with a formal dinner.

At one point, the lady host declared "Mr ........ - your photographs are lovely, , you must have a very good camera!"

The photographer, smiled politely and made no answer.

Later, as coats were being given, the photographer said (quite loudly) to the hostess "that was a lovely dinner, you must have a very good oven!".

An acoustic guitar is all you rally need.

Add a double bass, and its lovely,
Add a mandolin, and it really works,
Add a violin and a banjo - great.

but ..... a single acoustic guitar , is all you really need.
