Case lining messed up my French polished guitar
There’s a spot where the lower bout of my guitar contacts the lining of the case more than other areas. It appears that it has affected the French polish on the guitar.
If I make a bag for the guitar or a lining to protect the guitar from the case, what would be the best material to use. Non-synthetic felt maybe? |

A bit of old cotton from a well-used t-shirt should be good protection. Maybe cut off the neck and sleeves, and just slip it on over the body of the guitar before casing. The "fur" inside the case should not be very abrasive -- assuming it is clean. That wear pattern looks like a pressure area from the case padding. Are you sure that you have French polish? That can be renewed nicely by rubbing in some fresh shellac, the same as the original finish process.

Yes, I’m very sure it’s French polish. Just as sure as I am that I don’t have the skills (or the nerve) to attempt a repair. 😉
The guy who made the guitar suggested trying a mild polish; I might give that a try. |
