Default Does anyone feel the slapping technique can be overdone?

I'm new to the slapping percussive technique and not sure I like it in some arrangements. Anybody else feel like it can be overdone?

Tastefully and sparingly done it is fine:::: BUT
Not only "can" but is routinely overdone, by many players . Not only in tedious successive song after song after song situations but ,,,, IMO even when done repetitively and constantly in the same song it grows quickly tedious and gimmicky.

These questions occupy a very special place in my heart as I am, at least professionally, actually a bass player. In that world, this topic is at a whole nuther level of ridiculousness.

I had a post here... On reflection, I'm not sure what you mean by slapping percussive technique. So, I took it out. We might all be thinking of different things.

Default Celtic Music and the Percussive Technique

Unless done sparingly (VERY SPARINGLY) the slapping technique probably only belongs in a Celtic version of a song.

Percussive technique on the strings (as opposed to the sound board) is much more tolerated by myself.

Here's an arrangement, guitar played in a laptop position with a percussive technique that I could tolerate.

I remember the first time I saw someone play like that I was blown away. My level of excitement has decreased every time since.

I agree, it gets old quickly if that's the only thing the performer does.

Celtic music is repetitive, but from time to time, i enjoy listening to it and playing it.

It's easy to play, and easy to listen to.

Not much attention span or intensity needed.

But I do agree, percussive technique gets old with nothing else in the quiver.

Oh, you betcha it can be overdone. I check out the videos of newer artists, sure - but once they start testing the strength of the guitar's braces, I'm out.

Look, I started out in music as a drummer. If that's what I'd really wanted to do, I'd still be doing it.

Any use of it is overdone to me, but that's just me.

Default Riverdance

Riverdance wouldn't be Riverdance without percussive technique
