James Hetfield, lead singer and rhythm guitarist for Metallica, is an amazing rhythm player. The speed, precision, tightness, complicated riffs and different time signatures are great. And he also keeps the vocals going over that.

Jeff Healey, there's a name I haven't heard in many years. He had some great chops and a very unique playing style (because he was blind).

Nice to see another Duke Robillard fan, Doug. I've been a big fan of his for a long time, and being fairly local have seen him many times.
I can't help but noticing he is the last man standing in your list. Hopefully he will be back out playing when things resume!

Allen Holdsworth, who, unfortunately, is no longer with us. Had a very unique guitar voice that influenced folks like Eddie Van Halen and others. His solo starts around the 3:40 mark.

I think I saw Eric Johnson mentioned twice and no mention yet of Andy Timmons. Let me help. Along with all the usual suspects everyone has mentioned:

So many faves...
Pete Townshend is always my #1. Roger McGuinn also had a huge influence on the way I think about the electric guitar. I spent many hours in high school worshiping at the altar of Steve Howe. And of course it all started (for me, as for so many others of my generation) with George Harrison. He's a sloppy git at times, but so inventive and soulful. Other electric players I admire a lot for their distinctive tone and style: Martin Barre Richard Thompson Justin Hayward James Honeyman-Scott Stills & Young (I think of them as a pair, since they did the guitar work I admire most as a pair). I'm also a big fan of the great rock rhythm players: John Lennon, Bob Weir, Keith Richard, David Crosby, among others. (All of them, particularly Keith, have played some lead as well, but I think rhythm guitar is where their genius lies.)
