Any update on your SCGC custom?

George

It’s a little behind schedule. I checked July 1 , and they thought it was looking more like August. I’m cool with that. There’s always such a positive exchange with Carolyn and the folks at SCGC that it’s a pleasure working with them. But I always get anxious near the end.

I'm curious, with a custom order involving tone consultations, does one go through a dealer or order/work directly with SCGC? I hope (and expect) that your guitar will be wonderful for you!

I work directly with the builder, SCGC in this case. Once the design is pretty much roughed out, I involve the dealer so they become involved in the conversation. The Design gets fine tuned with everyone involved. You can buy directly from some builders (like Goodall or Froggy Bottom for example), but you can’t buy directly from SCGC, so the pricing and business side of the transaction is negotiated with the dealer. Ongoing conversations are done directly with the builder, but I cc the dealer so they stay in the loop. When the guitar is completed, it is shipped to the dealer and I pick it up at the dealer.

Ok, it’s been shipped and next stop — home. Here are some photos taken by SCGC. I’m anxious to see how they turned my description of desired tonal characteristics into reality. They nailed it on my OMG.

In general, I'm not a great fan of sunbursts, but that looks fantastic. Hope you enjoy it when it comes.

It’s funny, I’m not a huge fan either. In fact I thought I ordered this guitar with a natural finish. After I placed the order I almost called and changed the specs to sunburst because I like what SCGC does with this model, but I didn’t. When I saw pictures of the guitar I thought —— it’s beautiful, but what happened? I dug out my contract and sure enough, I forgot to spec a Natural Finish, so they went with their standard, a sunburst. The result was of my making. And I have to say — I’m glad it ended this way. I ve owned some beautiful sunburst guitars in the past, but this will be the only sunburst in my current collection.

Default Delivered!

I picked up the guitar at The Music Emporium this morning. It was completed a couple of days ago, shipped across country, landing yesterday, and felt it’s first strum this afternoon. It’s a bit confused , but already sounds resonant, open, woody and sweet. It’s quite light at 3lbs 10oz. I’ll give it time to settle down and find the right strings before I give an honest appraisal. However, aesthetically, it couldn’t be more beautiful imo.

That is definitely a very beautiful guitar. Looks like you got a great day for getting to know it.

Primo, gorgeous, congrats... I've had many SCGC guitars new and they often sound amazing day 1.... and then as the days go by and the guitar settles in, a bit more bloom, warmth and character develops, but loud and sensitive from day 1.... so fun, enjoy
