I just tripped over some video footage of FG giving some interesting visual evidence:

I use the lapel condenser with the gooseneck clipped on the tailpiece. I found it to be the best setup for me. I get many compliments on how natural it sounds. Thanks Jonathan Stout for your blog and sharing what works.

Awesome! I know it works for me, and I'm pretty sure it's the best way going, but it's always good to know when it works for someone else.
