I just tripped over some video footage of FG giving some interesting visual evidence:

The occasional mic (saw an SDC among others live).

The inch high action...

The "up, out and over" firing of the guitar almost flat in his lap.

I use the lapel condenser with the gooseneck clipped on the tailpiece. I found it to be the best setup for me. I get many compliments on how natural it sounds. Thanks Jonathan Stout for your blog and sharing what works.
