Default Banjo picker has crossed over

Hi, I'm new here, but have been lurking and enjoying the forum for a couple of months.

After taking up ukulele at age eight, moving up to a guitar at eleven, hoping to join the Beatles, which did not work out, messing around on a cheapo six-string for better than twenty years, I took up the banjo. Have two of them, enjoy the heck out of them, but lately had been looking longingly at ... my old Ovation. Great guitar, this one is. Played that for awhile and realized I really needed an all-wood guitar that sat flat in my lap.

So I went out and bought a Martin D-15 from the son of a friend. Also got a Happy Traum DVD from Homespun Tapes to work on my country/bluegrass chops, and here I am. I wish I could play the banjo and the guitar at the same time, but haven't figured that one out. I love both instruments. I am fingerpicking the Ovation and flatpicking the Martin.

Lotsa good information on this forum, and lots of nice people. By the way, I'm a gal. Maybe that's why the Beatles took a pass.

Not to worry, Beatles are just a fad. Now, Lester and Earl will live forever.

Smile Welcome to the forum...

Hello Laura,

I want to welcome you to the forum.
You will find that many of us play a wide array of string instruments.
There is plenty of room for ex-banjo-pickers as well.
Please let any of us know how we can help you feel more at home.
Take care.

Welcome,

Great place.............I always wanted to learn the banjo (I'm from Texas and grew up with old school country and bluegrass). I always wanted to play with the Beatles as well............they passed me over and I am not a girl. This forum is gender indiscriminate. I have talked to girls here without knowing for a long time.........

Have fun...............

Welcome, welcome, welcome.

I'm a banjo player too. I learned to play both at the same time, and I try to find a way to keep them both going.

Hope you enjoy the forum.

To play both banjo and guitar at the same time get someone to build you a custom.

Hi milliet...
Welcome to the group. We are glad you joined, and it sounds like you are on a musical adventure!

As for playing both banjo and guitar at the same time, just lay the banjo on the floor and use your feet on it while playing the guitar with your hands...heavier boots produce better tone (I'm smiling).

Nice to have banjo pickin' ladies in the group.

The Beatles took a pass on me as well. Maybe it's because I don't play the banjo.
