Good Suggestion, I tried it like Cahalen and Eli, in drop D, (or drop E for me, but I think I'll do it in normal tuning in C.

You have to be careful using gospel material in the UK, as religious stuff can embarrass some.

I'm playing for a friend's memorial tomorrow. I think I'll play John Prine's "He Was in Heaven Before He Died", TVZ's "Rex's Blues", Steve Earle's "Fort Worth Blues" and Billy Joe Shaver's "Live Forever".

Great set! Depending on the friend and mourners, “When I Get to Heaven” might be a good one to elevate the mood. (Prine)

Many good suggestions here. "The Parting Glass" acapella is what I would begin with, even if I did others. I sang it so at my friend's after funeral reception, and as the evening progressed many attendees mentioned to me how proper and fitting it seemed.

Well depending on your group:

The Night that Paddy Murphy Died

or

Here’s a Health

Might both be appropriate.

Thanks to all folks. I decided to sing "I'll not be a stranger2 and If I should fall behind"
Someone else did the latter one as part of the service, and the after burial (in pouring rain and high winds), was in a small function room which was dangerously overcrowded, partly by special needs children that he was somehow involved with and Jane (Mrs Moustache) remarked that it too crowded to be safe, and I had a word with the widow and made our apologies and left.

Thanks to all for your help :
