1997 Taylor 714 Cedar / Brazilian
Offering another special guitar I'd rather not sell, but here goes anyway. This great condition 1997 Taylor 714 is certainly near the top of the heap of golden age Taylors. The fantastic build details are matched by the tonal qualities. Loud, rich, and warm, with deep bass and brilliant trebles. Excellent clarity and sustain for days.
The Western Red Cedar top has aged nicely into a honey colored hue. There are a few small dings on the top as shown in the photos, as well as a few moderate pick marks in the area between the pick guard and the edge of the top. The pick guard itself has numerous light scratches. There are light marks on the left edge of the headstock. The binding on the body is not tortoise, but actual ebony. The photos of the very clean Brazilian back and sides speak for themselves. As nice a set of Brazilian as I've seen in person. In 2109 it was sent to the Taylor factory in El Cajon for the full spa treatment ($600 worth). The work performed included a refret with gold EVO frets, installation of a bone nut and saddle, a neck adjustment, some cosmetic touch up, and a thorough cleaning. If you have not played a Pre NT (2000) Taylor this would be a spectacular way to do so!
These are very different from later models! Slimmer neck, lighter build, more hand work. This will be a very NICE axe. Much closer to a boutique build than the newer models. Best on this Paul

‘97 714
90’s Taylor’s are very special animals. Thinner, faster necks and a much fuller sound.
Someone needs to jump on this.
