Default 2019 Gibson J-200 Unboxing!

Hi all,

I've posted a short video of me opening my brand new Gibson J-200 (2019). I say opening, we did actually open it for the first time at the store so I could try it out! It sounds beautiful and is without a doubt the best guitar I've ever played, and I've tried a few.

Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Cheers
Jack

Ah .. its one of the most pleasing moments when you receive your Gibson and appreciate the beauty of their instruments. Nothing like it in the world.

That J-200 looks deeamlike, what she sound like ?

I thought I was the only one to do that. Especially vintage guitars. The last guitar I bought smelled like a damp dungeon. But back to the beautiful J-200. I love the tone of a nice jumbo. Looks like a Merry Christmas to me!

Love it! I especially like how at the end, it cuts to the "scrolling" images of still-shots.. I've always wondered how to do that (and if there's a way outside of actual video editing software) as I see lots of people do it.

Anyway, great video. Wish we would've got to hear it, but that can be for another day! Opening a new Gibson is a rare and fantastic treat.

Congrats

Scott

AwesomeSauce.

So Jack, since you showed us this beauty, you now have two bits of 'splaining to do.

How's the sound, and how's the smell?

Don

I started my love affair with the SJ-200 in a 12-string. Without a doubt, my favorite guitar of all time.

It led me to purchase a used (2015) SJ-200 6-string. Listed as mint condition at a wonderful price. I am with several of you who smell the guitar immediately when opening it for the first time. Unfortunately, it came out of the guitar case smelling as if it had been around an awful lot of cigarettes. Totally killed the vibe. I put the case (not the guitar), opened, outside for two days.

The guitar has lost much of the smell since. But it sounds divine.

[QUOTE=GibbyPrague;5920781]But you forgot to sniff the sounhole !

Don't worry fellas, I gave the soundhole a good ole sniff and can confirm it is beautiful. It smells like vanilla, its amazing. Every time I open the case I am immediately taken by surprise and hit with that sweet sweet smell again and again...

Thanks for all the comments folks!

J-200’s are very cool and sound pretty great a unique to my ear. I especially like the burst versions. Congrats.

Congrats, looks great! Love my 2017 vintage sunburst. I did need to get a bit of glue added under mustache bridge as it was lifted a bit (big E side) ... thinking it was more a cosmetic/ornamental issue than anything else.Corrected under warranty and looks solid now. In just a bit over a year, it's sounding great. It's a keeper unless I can find an understated (and awesome sounding) J-100 somewhere along the way.
