[SOLD] 100 Year Old Grand Concert - Brazilian Rosewood Back & Sides
Hey all,
I'm a new member here at AGF but I've bought and sold guitars for more than 35 years and have excellent feedback on Reverb and TGP. If you have any questions at all, feel free to message me directly. 1920s Grand Concert guitar with Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. The guitar was represented as an Oscar Schmidt when I bought it, but there's some debate about that so I'm listing it as non branded. Neil Harpe, author of the Stella / Oscar Schmidt Guitar Book told me Oscar Schmidt guitars rarely (if ever) have rosewood sides and backs, and that it appears to have a three-piece neck, also an anomaly for a Schmidt guitar. Neil believes it's "a cut above a typical Oscar Schmidt guitar". Whatever the brand and maker, it plays and sounds absolutely wonderful. Grand Concert size Weight- 3lbs 8oz 14 1/2" at the bout 12 frets to the body Nut Width- 1.82" Full C shape neck profile Spruce top Ladder braced Figured Brazilian Rosewood back and sides Checker binding on the body and around the sound hole There are some repaired cracks on the back and sides, and one on the top. They are all secure and stable. The guitar has had a neck set and the action is consistently low down the fret board. It plays like a dream. The work was done by Michael Hauver - he specializes in restoring old guitars like this. He also added in the beautiful inlays. Top quality work. There's some binding repair near the neck pocket as well. Comes with an SKB case. I love how the purfling chases itself. It catches up above the waist and then back to the races. Never seen anything quite like it. What a cool guitar.

UPDATE - I have an offer so I'm dropping the price for a short period of time from $2200 to $2000. Here's a last shot to grab a 100 year old Brazilian Rosewood Gem.

Hey, I've got almost the exact same guitar! The Brazilian on mine isn't quite as nice as yours, it has an Ebony nut, and rope binding. Otherwise... Light, loud for its size, lots of bark, unmistakable old-time tone, lots of fun. What strings do you use, silk&steel?

Thanks for your comment - I love these old Brazilian guitars. This one is set up for some serious playing and the sound is sublime. So much volume and definition from such a small guitar. I use Elixr light strings and they really make this one sing!

Is there any way you could provide shots of the repair on the inside? When looking at the back, it appears that all of the white lines are cracks. Is this the case?

Cute little doll. I bet it sounds good with lights, but then again, the bridge, which is awfully oversized, can handle the extra tension.
