I consider the graft an important bit of the tradition. W/o it, there would be a lot of misaligned side purfling, at least on my guitars, and it is much harder to get the sides to butt perfectly than you’d think, at least judging by my own results. Of course I don’t try THAT hard, since I know I’m going to put in the graft. I love the waye mitered purflings look as they transition from the bindings to the graft and back to the opposite bindings. Also, I have spent 50+ years refining the skill it takes to get those misters as accurate as I am able to. My current average is equal to my best from 25 years ago, IMO of course. I still mess one up now and again.

I can't see the photos on this post but can on other threads here. And yet I see that others can see them..
Any explanations for that from anyone? |

As expected, the FT-15-C-JB/2 (whew) is bound, and I hope to have the graft and dovetail mortise in tomorrow.

That's looking gorgeous, Bruce.
It's been just 9 working days to finish this box!

Looks great Bruce.... That Amazon RW binding and end graft framed by the contrasting curly maple purflings.

"Oooo that looks good."
My first impression when I saw the finished graft. But not like we would expect less.

I love the look of the sides. They make me think I’m in a tornado about to be deposited in the land of oz. Guitars are supposed to take us to somewhere else so why not?

Since the sides generally come as rectilinear pieces, in this case 4 1/4 x 34, it is no effort whatsoever to repeat this "feature" should it catch on. Of course with my brain, some one will order it this way, and out of habit I will have to inform them that I have done it the normal way, and there is no backing out. Hopefully, Feng Shui will play for them as well as it did for Andrew.

For me it is a breath of fresh air . . . not counting the part where I had to come clean with Andrew.

(left) Tad's MadRose built in 2020.
(right) My replica using Tad's 2nd set of MadRose. Bruce has called it the "TadRose". This is after the first coat of varnish finish.

While working on Andrew's finish (the third coat is on today), I am also getting back to the two D style guitars I built in January. The (not) mahogany one is now a player. Here are some pics:
