Default New Baranik build

Mike has a couple of Brazilian Rosewood sets, and I couldn't resist. I've not had a BR guitar. We're going to pair it with cedar. Body size/type is TBD, after I try the upcoming "super Meridian". Cosmetic details also TBD. I know that he won't get it started for quite a while, so I have time to mull it over and discuss with Mike. I do know for sure that it will be shorter scale and with a 1 13/16" neck.

I MIGHT be selling my 2004 CX that I bought used, to help fund this build. We'll see. I'll keep my Meridian for sure.

I'm at Mike's shop weekly these days. It's fun to see various projects come together bit by bit!

Best,
Jenn Martin

Good for you! Mike builds a great guitar. Looking forward to pics when it gets started.

That sounds AWESOME, Jenn! Nothing quite like a Baranik build thread. I, too, will be looking forward to updates.

And what's this about the Super Meridian? Has Mike actually designed that model? I remember reading about it two or three years ago, but since then, no one seems to have posted anything else about it.

Hey there! I know no specifics about the Super, but I know that it's going to premiere at the Santa Barbara show. Perhaps he'll let me have a peek this week!

Hi Jenn,

Beautiful wood combo! What scale length will you go for...24.9? What is your main reason for the shorter scale. I am interested as I am close to my build slot with Mike too and have wondered about a shorter scale length.

Smile Brazilian Baranik

Congrats Jenn! I can't wait to see the details of this build unfold. Like you, I love Mike's guitars.

You can't just tease us saying a Brazilian set is irresistible and not post a pic. Please post a pic or two of the Brazilian set when you can.

Cheers.

Will do. The set I picked is very dark, almost black.

Best wishes to you!

Maybe 24.9, maybe 24.65. I've played one of Mike's with that later length and it's like buttah! Reasons are that in my compositions I do quite a few 6 fret stretches. I can do it with longer scale, but why work hard and riskier than I have to? And, though my hands presently feel great, I'm 60 years old and I have a couple of friends with hand problems who have benefited greatly from a bit shorter scale.
