Default The quandary maple 000

Some of you may remember the maple guitar that I was struggling over, trying to get a head stock design, wondering about the finish. Etc. etc.

So, throwing convention to the winds I decided on an hourglass burst on the back and conventional burst patterns on the sides and just a little toner on the top. Here is what we have so far. I am thinking it's going to be one of those guitars that divides the house, (at least the viewing part of the house). You'll either like it or you won't with few neutrals. That's kind of fun.

View from the white room

This one is headed for Santa Barbara

I'll post the neck just as soon as I make up my mind.

I'm not a "naysayer", but I need to look at it a bit. It's an absolutely beautiful guitar. The worst I could possibly say is "I might prefer a conventional burst" -- but I can't even say that. I'm too caught up in the rest of the beauty. Very nice indeed.

This might sound odd, but if the base was standing upright, I would probably have a stronger immediate reaction. (Yes, I know I can turn my iPad around)

Thanks Paul
Those shots were sent to me from the guy who does my finishing. I too wish they were oriented differently but I'm just happy to get progress pics.

I've never heard of an hourglass burst - did you just make that up? I think I like it better than a conventional burst - it looks more natural somehow. It's very beautiful, front, back and sides.

Love that look, especially the "hourglass burst"!

Now, in full and fair disclosure - I prefer a less wide rosette but that's just my one personal preference. More folks probably love larger ones I think. I just wanted to mention that so you could see my opinion of the stunning beauty of this guitar (especially the finish) was "fair and balanced".
