That is one very, very special guitar! When do you expect it to deliver? Is Joel hand delivering it to HI?

Truly beautiful, and I'm sure it is going to sound spectacular!!

Hah hah! I don't think they make a Hoffee or Ameritage in Joel's shape/size.

What are you Joel? Your not a Jumbo, as I didn't think your lower bout was that wide...

Hi Pat...do you have a relative (nephew?) that lives in Hawaii?

Yes I do. David, lives in Kaneohe. Know him?

Pat

P. S. We're planning on Christmas there this year. Maybe we can connect.

I met him when I dropped off my Edwinson guitar to Joe Ernst (haolebrownie here on the AGF) at a Hana Lima class. They were both building ukuleles at Hana Lima and he spoke of you when I mentioned Joel in Spokane. The world keeps getting smaller :-)

Christmas in Hawaii sounds great...touch bases as the time gets closer. Aloha,

Hen

Hen & Joel, What an absolutely amazing guitar! I love everything about it. The back looks as if a painter brushed his canvas with a few brush strokes and then detailed in the leaf. The fingerboard is awesome, and it must be exciting, Hen, to think about moving your fingers along it. I really don't have all the words to tell you how beautiful this is. I can't wait to hear Hen's response when it finally arrives at his place and he sits down to play it for a while. Congratulations on an awesome guitar!

Thanks everyone for the kind words....Joel and I have had a great relationship over the past five plus years and I've been lucky enough to experience his growth as a luthier. I have no doubts that this guitar will be exquisite and everything I expect tonality, and obviously, visually. It is on its way to Hawaii, and I should be receiving it Tuesday/Wed...can't wait!

This guitar is the second of four "heirloom" guitars that I am having built to pass on to my three sons (three sons and four guitars? I know...the math doesn't add up, but I have to have one for me don't I?)

The first was an all Koa Cornerstone Zion, and the next one will be an all Koa Batson GC currently being built by Cory. The fourth one will most likely be an all Koa as well, but I haven't yet decided who will be building that one. The all Koa's will be given to my sons at the appropriate time, while this one will stay with me.....

Thanks Joel...looking forward to our Mun Ebony/LS build next year....Aloha, Hen

The guitar arrived yesterday and boy is it stunning!! Joel, you have outdone yourself with this one. Excellent build quality and attention to details

I fiddled a little with it last night, and its still a little tight, but should open up nicely. Great tone and sustain for a newly strung guitar....surprisingly (to my ears at least) this is one of the brighter sounding sinker redwood tops that I've played. I'm gonna break out the Tonerite, and see if it'll make a difference by this weekend.

I am extremely please with this build (but then again, Joel has never disappointed). I look forward to spending more time with it this weekend, after a three day Tonrite treatment. More pics will be posted when I have the time.

Aloha,

Hen

Can't wait until you get to post some sound clips, if that's possible!! I have a Sinker top on the BTO I'm selling, and while it has some of the Taylor brightness, between that and the Macassar back, the guitar sounds rich and lush, both bright and warm. It seems like you might find that as well with yours when it opens up a bit more. Enjoy!!!

Thanks Mike, I'm fully expecting the tone to change as it opens up.... I've had two Sinker Red/Mac Eb guitars (a Stehr and an Edwinson) and both of them have that signature rich lush tone you allude to. Similarly, I've also experienced it with my other sinker redwood customs that I've had built in the past, with cocobolo, monkeypod, koa, nigerian ebony, braz rosewood, walnut, back and sides.

I'm a sucker for Redwood tops if you could tell (sinker especially), which is why all except for 4 or 5 of the custom built guitars I've owned in the last 5-6 years have been Redwood tops.

I'll try to get a clip made, but I'm not set-up for recordings...usually just record off my iPad. Aloha!

That's great Hen! I'm so happy you like it. Mahalo!

It had about 5 minutes of play time prior to leaving my shop, so yeah, it needs a little time to settle and figure out what it wants to do. It'll naturally have a bit more brightness to it with the 2 extra higher octave strings, but everything should settle in nicely.

Yee Haa!

Joel
