I switched guitars for practicing slide to a Pono 12-20 because it has 12 frets like the resonator guitars have.....I'm playing thru the Fender Deluxe Reverb, and added some reverb and the guitar sounds great--sometimes....I have a long way to go yet.....

I just auditioned a 2009 Prototype National Trlolian 12-fret (it actually has the old-timey decal headstock logo), in excellent condition with National HSC for $2150. I don't see this model offered in the current National model lineup.
Do any of you National aficionados have any good or bad things to say about the newer National Triolian 12-Fret Model? Thanks.

It was made 04/19 for the Twelfth Fret in Toronto. It sat untouched in storage until I bought it. The 12th Fret is a big National dealer so it might have been a special order. Grant is the National guru there. They bring in a lot of neat models not listed on National's website. https://www.12fret.com/brands/national/ Last edited by Guest 33123; 01-22-2021 at 07:44 PM. |

When I got the artist deal with National it was the first model I chose to have built for me. I love mine! I had them use some extra nice flame maple on the neck and I had some slightly more ornate inlays installed...

Thanks, Rockabilly! The main difference I can tell between the Triolian and the Style O is that the Triolian body is steel-based whereas the Style O is bell-brass-based. Can you hear much difference between the two body materials? Thanks.

There is a huge difference in tone to me, the bell brass is softer sounding. Is it a better sound? It's personal taste. I was playing a lot of aggressive blues when I first got my Trioilian and I think that sound works better for that. But for softer fingerpicking I think I would prefer the Style 0.

Just a quick update. I put a deposit on a Mule Mavis. I think it came down to me wanting to support a small luthier. Long wait but I’ve been waiting a long time to make a decision and roughing it out with blues on my D-28 for so long I guess another 10 months won’t matter
