Lovely instrument and thanks for the trouble to make this high qual vid. I'd love to hear this guitar again, same conditions in 2 weeks, 2 months.

Brian, congratulations on adding another fantastic guitar. If you ever make it back to Arizona with it that would be awesome. All the best.

Here are some shots! I'll provide some additional thoughts on the guitar later when there's time, but spoiler alert - it continues to be exceptional. I guessed wrong on the tuners, though! I've had these Rodgers for awhile and figured I'd try them on this guitar. They're too big and don't work stylistically with this headstock. If anyone has a Somogyi or something with a similarly modern headstock, I'll be ready to sell these in a few months with the replacement Rodgers get here.

That’s a really great looking (and sounding) guitar. I see Michael has posted your video on the FB website.

I thought I'd update this thread with some more current thoughts. It has broken in A LOT over the last couple months or so. The biggest gains have been in the bass response and the attack.
There’s a woody “gruff-ness” to the bass now that wasn’t there when I first played it. It’s full, but it’s snappy and transparent. It’s a more quick and tidy bass response that still maintains great density. This FB has my single favorite quality about mahogany guitars. It has a tonal profile that’s VERY malleable. With some concentration, I can get most any color on the “bright to dark” spectrum out of this guitar. I just need to be really attentive. Big difference in tonality depending on where and how you pluck the string. I have other equally lovely guitars where that isn’t as apparent as it is here. This is my only short scale guitar, though and I think that’s part of what I’m hearing. The overtones are generous for a mahogany guitar but still dialed back in a way that allows it to be a fantastic strummer. If I only played with a pick, this would still be a dream guitar. The sustain has always been there. WONDERFUL attack, though and this has been slowly occurring over the past 6 months. Lots of “pop” at the onset of the note. I’m really leaning into the brighter qualities of this guitar’s personality by using only 80/20s on it (I use PB on everything else except the baritone). The Froggy trademark “woodiness” in the mid-range is well represented here. Mr. Rodgers put replacement buttons on my tuners as well. Black pearl is the material and the shape is now oval. (Pics below). Had the action lowered a fair bit from factory spec and somehow I feel it sounds even better. With friends like this, it’ll be fun growing old! Here are a few more videos and pics! First video is from today, the second is from October. |

Great share Brian. I received my M a couple of months after you, in April. Although my guitar is Adi/EIR, I would plagiarize your description to describe my impressions after 9 months of play time with a couple of differences. One of the qualities I was initially struck by was just how punchy and edgy the guitar was out of the box and thought — wow I wasn’t quite ready for this. Then I remembered what Michael said to me when he handed me my Adi/Walnut K about 6 years ago. He said —“Don’t be timid. Play this one hard and you will be rewarded. I love this guitar.” He was right. It has become glorious. The M is tracking that experience, much as you has described so well.
As a side note, I’ve not had the same experience with my 12-fret H-12 or C Froggies. They arrived like comfortable pair of old shoes. You’ve played many and wonder if you’ve had a similar experience with 12-fret models vs 14-fret Gibson inspired models? Great playing! |

Beautiful, Brian!!! Amazing playing on an amazing guitar!! I have to admit, since my Flammang arrived, I've been drawn to Mahogany in recent times.
Wonderful job!!
