Plum wood
Wondered if any luthier here has used plum wood for the back and sides, and could comment on the results, especially of course on how the resulting sound might be described?
Regards Andy

I'm not a luthier but wonder about the size of plum trees and how straight the wood might be. They seem to be small trees. Pictures of older ones seem to indicate a twisting growth manner.
If a good set could be procured, it would be interesting to see and hear the results. |

It's really hard wood, and can be very beautiful, but I, too, doubt that you would find anything very wide. Might be able to get a 4 piece back out of it, though.

It makes a lovely bright set of Uilleann Pipes, cuts through a session.
