Just found out today, Wednesday June 3rd, of his passing yesterday. I never heard of him until years ago I started to watch RFD-TV and say him play on several old shows and the relatively current Family's Country Reunions and Larrys Country Diner with Larry Black. That's when I discovered his nickname of the sheriff character he played on the Diner show. His playing looked like water running downhill. No cause of death provided so far. He was a "goodun"

We would occasionally get Larry's Country Diner on the upper channels, and the playing of the sheriff was always tasty and impressive. I never knew his name though.

That would be "back." I learned of him several years ago on RFD TV. Hopefully he was as cool as he seemed.

He used “back “ as play on “man in black “ since he was “back up “ for lots of vocalist.

"The man in back". As he put it, that's where he wanted to be, behind the person in the light with the microphone, making music and not in the limelight.

A really great musician.

"The man in back" is the title of his book, I think it was published relatively recently, not sure of the year. But I saw a picture of the cover

Last year. A nice, easy read and full of interesting stories and interviews.

Memorial Service will be at the Opry on Tuesday. WSM will stream it starting at 1 PM local time.

Larry's Country Diner show will have a special show this week in honor and remembrance as well.
