I love these build threads. Thanks for sharing David!
If I'm ever in Toronto I'd love to drop in and see your work up close. I promise to stay away from any and all tools - not my area of expertise, so I live vicariously through those who have talent when it comes to working with wood.

Hi David, fantastic work! You are representing us Canucks well here on the AGF.
A couple queries - I may have missed it but what is 'RFX'? Also, I was wondering why you route your dovetail before the rims are attached to the top and back? What I usually see is the dovetail getting routed after everything is boxed and bound. Any advantages to your method? Thanks again for sharing your builds, I look forward to trying one of your guitars someday. |

Hey Murray ... thanks for the kind words! The short answer to why I cut the body dovetail at that stage is ... that's how I was taught to do it, and it seems to work fine. I like the fact that you can clamp the sides assembly firmly in a normal vise to hold the sides and dovetail jig ... but as with all things, it is only one way to do it. I was wondering if anyone would ask what the "RFX" stood for! It's my slightly dopey acronym for "Raised Fingerboard eXtension" ... which will become apparent as the build progresses. Just a slightly different pinned dovetail joint that allows neck removal by unscrewing one bolt.
