Default Wilborn OM lutz/myrtle at TAMCO: UK

Another builder we don't hear much about on here is Ben Wilborn. I met Ben at Healdsburg last year. He makes stunning guitars at very reasonable prices.

I just received this gorgeous OM.

Myrtle/Lutz is a powerful combination, and that's a fine-looking guitar!
Is that Bloodwood he has used for the bindings?

Default Wilborn OM

Yes, that is bloodwood. It's my favorite binding wood for myrtle,
and my favorite smelling wood, period!

Absolutely drop dead gorgeous. Love the Rosette as well.

If you don't mind the query, what would be the tonal characteristics of this particular build combination? Can you also build your OM model in short scale version 24.9"?

Regards,

I like the smell too, kind of like cotton candy. As bad as we now understand sugar to be for us, more caution yet is a good idea with the red colored woods (also Pernambuco and Padauk) as they are considered more toxic than average. Mercuric Oxide?

Default Wilborn

I played this guitar for quite awhile... Wow!
If you go to Ben's Facebook page, there is a vid of him playing and chatting about it..
The tone, to me, was very woody... and it was a very alive..
sounded the same fingerpicked softly or loudly. No break-up..
It was fantastic.
Not to mention how pretty.

I love the treatment of the soundhole/rosette.

Default Myrtle/Lutz Combo

Totally agree with Steve on "Myrtle/Lutz is a powerful combination!"
