Default Northwood guitar string suggestion

Fellow Northwood owners - what strings do you prefer on your John McQuarrie gem(s). And why?

I play the R-80 Mini Jumbo if that figures into your reply. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hi there fellow Northwood owner! I'd wanted a Northwood for a while and finally had the opportunity to purchase an Auditorium model (Sitka/Rosewood) about a year ago. It is one of the most responsive guitars I've played - very happy with it. I can't remember the strings it came with it but when they were ready to be changed I put on D'Addario XS PB 12's and couldn't be happier. They have been on for months and continue to sound excellent. I used to avoid coated strings as I didn't like the feel of most, but coatings have definitely improved. I will try some other strings too, but I give a big positive vote to XS strings.

Default Northwood strings

Can I join the Unofficial Northwood Guitar fan club......? lol lol

I have a remarkable Northwood D80 Brazilian / Englemann.

Have tried a few different strings. A few months back I wanted to try a set of strings that do not colour the true sound of the wood combination and put on a set of D'Addario Nickel Bronze strings. ( 12 - 53 ).

I like them. They actually do what they claim...... allow the natural tone of the woods to shine.

I agree that John makes real nice instruments.

I’ve had good luck with the John Pearse 600L sets on my mahogany 000.

Seems like a Northwood guitar can make any strings sound good though.

My R80-000 (engelmann/EIR) sounds great with any string I put on it. Because of the rich tone, lights sound like mediums, especially in the treble!

But like others above, I have settled on XS PB lights. John makes killer guitars.
