Yamaha or Takamine - New Or Old?
Hello. I am looking to buy a used Nylon 'crossover' electric acoustic guitar and was thinking of a Yamaha NTX3 until I recently saw an ad for a 35+ year old Takamine EN 60C which appealed to me because of the name and heritage factor. Both are in very good condition physically but too far away for me to travel just to inspect and test.
Can anyone advise me, generally speaking ,is there likely to be a substantial improvement in build, electronics and sound quality between an older guitar like the Takemine and a more recent one like the Yamaha given advances in technology ie in principle is the Yamaha likely to be the better bet? I know it's difficult to make any judgement without actually playing the guitars but I would nevertheless welcome any general advice and thankyou in advance for any comments. |

I don't believe you could go wrong with either. Electronics do advance rather quickly. The only thing slowing it down is the market place. What do the customers want in a particular product.

I was going to say the same as rstraight. You cannot go wrong either way -- based on a specific example. I have owned both brands in the past. On the practical side, a new one is less likely to need a neck reset than something decades old, but you also get well-aged wood.
