Default Why do we have to wait 30 seconds bt searches?

I’m brainstorming for a valid reason. I understand 30 seconds inbetween posts (in case someone needs to “count to ten”). I don’t run into it frequently but it’s certainly the opposite of what every search engine’s goal is.

I believe it's to ensure that you're not a robot designed to overwork the server.

Using the internal search taxes the database. You can use the Google custom search at the bottom or in the nav bar at the top to your heart’s content.

I can't use Google search if I'm accessing the forum via tapatalk... therefore the internal search is the only method in this case..

I agree with op.. isn't it possible to reduce it to 15 seconds? it would reduce the pain by a large margin!

Default Was that set up when the board was founded?

Servers are much more powerful now than they were even 5 years ago. Just trying to open a topic that would make this board more efficient and user friendly. I haven't used another tapatalk or yuku forum that had this limitation.

Not directly related to the OP’s question but the question reminded me of these lyrics

Slow down, you move too fast
You got to make the morning last
Just kicking down the cobblestones
Looking for fun and feeling groovy
Ba da-da da-da da-da, feeling groovy

Simon & Garfunkel

And the profound nature these lyrics really hit home for me about 6 or 8 years ago.

I'm in a hurry to get things done

"Oh I rush and rush until life's no fun
All I really gotta do is live and die
But I'm in a hurry and don't know why"

For me frenetic searching is not why I visit AGF

but wasting time waiting to search something again if i have a typo in the search or nothing came up is just that, a waste of time. i don't think anyone comes here to do "frenetic" searching but it's a hassle to wait and it does not have to be that way.

my suggestion to the admin: change it and see how the system responds. if there are adverse effects then change it back. pretty simple.

I agree with you but - We must be doing pretty well here if this is the worst comment/question/gripe/observation we have here.

We are running on modern hardware, but vBulletin's primary purpose is not to function as a dedicated search engine and the forum software is not optimized as such. The larger the post database gets, the ever slower and more taxing the search becomes.

I talked to JR about the search time and 30 seconds was chosen as a balance between user needs and keeping the site running efficiently and will not change. I will also say that there's a reason (multiple, actually) why we use Google custom search as the primary search in lieu of the software's own mechanism.

Even if we were to reduce the time, I would still suggest that if you need to frequently search that often to use the Google custom search (switch to the web-based site for app and Tapatalk users) during those times. It's faster, not server intensive, has zero wait time between searches, and indexes much better than the internal search.

For those that use the Chrome browser, there is an extension called "Search the current site":

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...dfeofombdekjcp

It installs a little magnifying glass icon to the right of your address bar, and clicking on it opens a little box in which you can enter search criteria for whichever web page you are currently viewing, e.g. AGF.

oh, using an add on...now why didn't I think of that earlier! this is a great reminder.. awesome recommendation. thanks!

now to solve this same problem when using tapatalk... unfortunately this app relies on the site search engine to do it's search... AND I'm not going to surf AGF using a mobile web browser, cos many times the font sizes go haywire.. too small in one post, and then too large in the next post..
