I've tuned into this for quite a while via trail building and ski area director (board).

Fall is here now but for several years we've had days and weeks outside of normal. Some of our ski club leaders are UW space science and meteorology staff or retired and they've pointed out our nights are getting warmer and maybe part of our unpredictable new normal.

Last weekend was a freeze, some cold rains have happened, a day in the 80s, and today wet, cold, grey and fall looking.

The farmer's market and grocery trips feel like fall. Able to bike commute without a sweat feels like fall. My wife throwing most of the sandals and light shoes in a storage crate feels like fall. Finally, my daughter asking me to do homecoming photos feels like fall.

We don't really suffer winter in San Clemente, but this week we feel fall in the air. Day temps are down to the low 70's and humidity is up a bit. After months without rain, a brief shower passed through mid week. All this set under sunny to partly cloudy days. I'm a summer guy, so I start counting the days till spring about now.

I live beside the Arkansas River here in Wichita, Kansas. It's the same river, but it isn't the same river you see if you know what I mean!

Ha! I do know what you mean. It's a trout stream up here. Beautiful.

My in-laws live along the same river in SW Colorado. LaJunta and Las Animas. It's a slow-moving braided river there, but vital to what's left of the ag industry there.
