Well, an Ibanez copy, but back in the Husker Du days that was what I'd see him with.

Funny. I was literally watching a youtube video series on Taylor's guitars. Had just watched the 3rd one first, then while the first one loaded I started reading this thread. What is even funnier is that I just noted that Taylor was using the same stands that I have, made by Hamilton.

I've been hanging my Froggy Bottom and first McAlister on them for about 18 years, to no ill effect. Solid and stable.

OMMV

Oh cool, I didn’t know that. I first started listening to him in the 90s when he started Sugar. I know some Husker Du, but never saw a performance.

Got my Fender hanging stands yesterday, and they’re MUCH better than the cheap stands I was using before. The bottoms of the guitars contact the foam padded legs, so no swinging. They’re pretty heavy and stable overall.

Hey Jimi2,
glad to hear yur pleased with your Fender stands.
I have some of them as well, and although they are not up to the Hercules standard, they are suitable.

But I made one small, but significant, improvement I’d offer you.. adding an “O ring”.

The factory compression latch that keeps the height of the upper part secure
is potentially the weak point of these.
By adding a tight fitting.. good quality.. “O ring” to the upper shaft, you can regulate how far the upper part slides into the lower part.

You can easily adjust the height by rolling the O ring to your desired location.
This way, the weight of the guitar is held up by both the O ring AND the latch.

I’ve never had a problem with theses Fender stands, but I like the added security of the ring.

That’s great, thanks. What sort of O ring do you use? Just anything from a hardware store?

I have two of the Hercules GS415B PLUS stands and a K&M 17670 Memphis Pro stand. I much prefer the Hercules stands. Also Hercules says their stands are safe for nitrocellulose finishes, while K&M says theirs is not. The one thing I like about the K&M is that it's only about 21" when collapsed, so it's convenient for carrying to a gig.

I currently have four of these Fender stands and I love them. The last pair I got when MF had them as a Stupid Deal of the Hour a month or two back: 30 bucks for the pair.

I'm going to try the O-ring trick on them as soon as I get to the hardware store, but I will say that the original pair has performed reliably for the couple of years that I've owned them. All of the cheap stands that I used previously have been confined to a storage bin since the day the Fenders arrived.

Yes,
I already had a selection in my shop stash of stuff, but I’m sure you’ll find what you need at a hardware store.
Might want to take the top section with you when you go shopping, to make sure the ring fits nice and tight.

I have a couple of Hercules wall hangers with plans to take my electric guitars out of the case and actually play them, since my acoustics are on Hercules racks and get played all the time.

Edit: Also, I'm a huge Bob Mould fan. Took my kids to their first rock concerts in 2015, and they got to meet and high five Bob. I hope he still has that Flying V tucked away in storage, since he's been playing Strats solo for years.

I use Hamilton hanging stands exclusively...they are very stable and as safe as any guitar stand. They also fold up nice for transport/storage. Heavey duty components and adjustable base as well as height. Love them.

I don't know what brand this is but it seems to work well.

I have two rambucious puppies, so setting the guitar anywhere on a floor stand puts the guitar in mortal danger. They also like to chew on things.

I could be wrong, but I am not concerned about the weight of the guitar pulling on the neck as the guitar is extremely light (Martin SC-13e).

Of course cases are the safest, but not as accessible. Hangers are perfectly fine (wall or stands). Traffic, pets, humidity, etc are all up to you. But like ANY hanger, rest stands, or even cases, make sure theres no materials that will bleed onto finish. The mere hanging mechanics are perfectly safe.
