So I meant to take a lot of pictures, but I ended up speaking with Ervin Somogyi about guitar design for about an hour or two...
Tom Theil's trailer full of tone woods: I purchased some really nice adirondack spruce and sitka from Tom two somogyi's Laurent brondel's superb guitars: that pernambuco om for TAMCO is absolutely amazing Jason Kostal mod. Dread An amazing brazilian rosewood David Laplante classical: really warm sounding with fantastic sustain

So sorry I didn't take pictures!! I was on overload from the minute I walked in. The show was terific, and at Tony's (StringMeUp) suggestion, I found Sheldon Schwartz. I palyed his Oracle, and I didn't want to put it down. It was one of my two favorites to play at the show. The other, suprisingly for me, was a Randy Muth guitar. It surprised me because I see him as under the radar, and also because the guitar was mahogany, and I rarely play a mahogany guitar that I like. This one was my favorite sounding guitar at the show, and it was the simplest. It just had the nicest tone, understanding that one is subjective, of course, but to me, I would have made an offer. The only issue was that the high e-string sat right at the the finger joint on my index finger, and it was really uncomfortable; I would need a slightly wider neck as this as 1 11/16, so 1 3/4 would have been ideal.
I saw Jason Koastal, Ray Kraut, Howard Klepper, and some of the other nicest guitars from John Ostoff. All were incredibly gracious and it was really nice to see all those guitars in one place. They were truly stunning to see in person (the guitars...the builders are just people, lol), and as the cliche goes, the pictures just don't do them justice. It was very loud in the main hall, but they allowed you to go down side hallways, up in a balcony or into some separate quiet rooms if you really wanted to play/purchase. It was weird how someone could hand you a $9000 guitar and tell you to go have fun. I was weaving in and out of people like I was holding a baby, trying not to bump into anything. While I don't think I'll go again next year, I'm very glad I went this year.
