I know I am often quoted as only playing Spruce top guitars (for admittedly good reason) I do have a soft spot for walnut and redwood as a combo and I know Rory will do a wonderful job as ever.

I'm looking forward to see the build progress almost as much as you are!

Well Michael you could make a cigar box full of sardines sound good. It is your darned visit to Rory's shop and video that got this guitar going...(and I thank you for that haha), it better be good!

Here is an interesting video by Rory showing him bending one side (cutaway side). I have never seen this in real time so I thought it was pretty cool. Some of our Scottish members may need to translate for us haha!

The guy is fearless! I'm pretty sure, if I tried this, I would have 3rd degree burns on half my fingers and have set my sweatshirt on fire.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing, he gets pretty darned closed to that thing! I would bet there has been at least a time or two where some salve and bandaging were needed!

Yes, he seems to make that wood do what he wants it to. He did say the walnut bent really nicely.

Hi all,

Delighted to see everyone enjoying the thread! I can definitely confirm there has been a few burnt fingers over the years

Starting the Rosette next week, pictures to follow and potentially another video - maybe with subtitles this time?! haha.

Have a great weekend folks,
Rory

Great to see you chiming in on the thread, Rory!

It looks like you're off to a great start at building a beautiful instrument for Tom.

Really looking forward to meeting you and playing your guitars at BIG(er)!

I can't believe Rory can talk while doing that. I'd be so busy watching my fingers I'd be struck dumb. Sounds like it's coming along nicely though.

Looking forward to following the build. There is a beautiful Taran guitar for sale in the Rest of the World section. No affiliation with the seller , just a heads up to see some of Rory`s beautiful work.

Yes, his guitars are stunning, he does a lot of hot sand fading to change the tone of woods especially at junction points like the end of the arm rest as it joins the body of guitar and in this guitar, he will being doing it in the rosette. This gives his guitars a really beautiful touch.

I have been hankering for a Taran guitar since Rory went online.
I should have made move then, he prices certainty have increased.
Deservedly so with the quality of his workmanship. I envy you on this build

Beautiful Tom, great thread. We visited near the Taran shop last year (near St Andrews), and it was beautiful.
