Fishman Rare Earth Question
I just bought an old Guild with a Fishman Rare Earth mounted in the soundhole. No model number on it. No mic so it's not a blend. The newer ones have a volume wheel, mine does not. It does have two little Energizer 357 batteries and a switch. I'm not sure if I can hear a difference with the switch one way or another. It's got to be either a phase switch, or an active/passive switch. I'm thinking active/passive and my batteries are dead since no difference is apparent, plus even though it sounds terrific, it's not that hot of a signal. Can anyone confirm?

I'm betting it's an older humbucking model & the switch is a tone switch. I don't remember exactly but I think one position was a high-end boost.

Yes, it is the Humbucking stacked coil pickup.
The switch you are referring to is a 'brilliance switch'........ In the "up" position, this switch provides a subtle, rising treble boost, from 2 kHz to 20 kHz. This position is especially effective for adding a bit of extra sparkle to finger style playing. In the "down" position, the switch provides a flat response, which produces a mellower sound, well suited for strumming and flatpicking. Hope this helps |
