...the listing has already been pulled (it was on the Jacksonville CL)...so i reckon someone in the know jumped on it...it was a good deal at that price...

That's my strategy is to throw out a low offer and see if they take it. They just might want to hassle with it.

It’s definitely worth visiting the seller and playing the guitar in person. Unless there’s something else hideously wrong with it that hasn’t been disclosed in the ad, that’s a very fair price, even if you ultimately decide to have it retopped.

Which might be worth considering, once you’ve recovered from the initial expenditure required for acquiring the guitar. If I had a crack at it, I’d do just that: send it back to Martin to have it retopped with red spruce and pre-war style scalloped bracing.

You would be dramatically boosting the resale value if you did that.

Just a thought...

I wonder if this is the same guitar? Price for the OP guitar was $3,500.00, this one $6,150.00. Both were listed on the Jacksonville Craigslist. Is someone trying to flip it?

No, they are different. That one has the original finish. I know of that seller. I spoke to this seller over the phone. He's willing to sell it for 3k pending my inspection. He's only my way because he is visiting his daughter at a nearby college so I have to decide pretty soon. Doubt I will be able to take it to a luthier before then. I'll probably pass on it but I sure would like to at least give it a look and play.

This is in my opinion a nice example of what may be possible for it if it needs a new top: https://applink.reverb.com/item/1085...pec-conversion
