Last Train to Clarksville
This Boyce and Hart tune is played on a Guild D1212 which I find cantankerous to play, but it's nice and jangly. Tuned down and Capo II because open the nut is a bit too narrow.

Great fun. And now I have even more respect for the monkees. Love the 12 string and was captivated by the bridge (or is that a trestle in this song?).

Nicely done. Faster and faster tempo as it goes along. Intentional?

Thanks for overlooking the rough playing and recording quality (cell phone actually - below the standards typical on this forum). I wasn't exactly a fan of the Monkees but I've always liked this tune and the guitar work and have played around with it on and off over the years -- the 12 string inspired me to work on it again.
I have seen the Louie Shelton vid before and he's great, and as was mentioned about the "wrecking crew" -- I remember reading Tommy Tedesco's column in the old days -- I think in Guitar Player magazine -- about studio work, and how one had to be ready for anything, any style, to get the right sound for every job - so I also have a lot of respect for studio players. As for tempo creep I was honestly unaware of it -- the recording was originally intended to be a quick take for posterity but since it turned out halfway decent I thought to share it. I don't record very often -- there is a lot I need to learn about the process. |
