I decided to add bass, drums, vocal harmony, and a separate lead acoustic guitar to my acoustic recording because to me, the song never sounds right without these elements. Of course, adding all these elements and learning the parts takes a whole lot more time. Doing a multi-track recording is always a learning experience, at least for me.

The 12-string is my Guild model F512; the acoustic 6-string is my Gibson Advanced Jumbo. The drum samples are from Easy Drummer used in Cubase.

I hope you like this. Thank you for listening!

From 1974? You haven't aged a bit!

Great job.

That sounded so good and full. Sure you didn’t have the band and backup singers hidden off to the side? I’ve sung along to that recording for years and always thought Sundown was the girl fooling around behind his back. I even thought that when Gordon Lightfoot was singing it at the Greek. Great job.

Hi Shirley,

Thanks so much for your comments!

Yes, I always thought that Sundown was the girl, too. But after looking up background on the song, I've become convinced that Sundown is the interloper. If Gordon Lightfoot was feeling a little "mean" about the interloper chasing after his girl, then I could understand his reaction a little more.

Adding the drums and bass, in particular, does add a lot of depth to the sound. The backup harmony, also adds a lot.

Thanks so much for your thoughts, Shirley!

Excellent, Glenn, just good ol' excellent!

I have that same 12-string and I'm pretty sure I never sounded that good playing mine. Love the song, always have, and you make it look so easy but I know there was a lot of work to put all that together.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi David!

Oh, how cool that you have a Guild F512! I feel so fortunate to own this guitar! I have to believe you feel the same way!

I'm glad you feel that I made this look easy, because, in fact, that rhythm isn't all that easy at all! It takes practice to get that right, and when I watch myself playing this, all I think about is where I didn't do it quite right!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment here! It is much appreciated!

Outstanding, Glenn! I love how you bring all the elements together, and they are mixed perfectly, with the bass present-but-not-overpowering and your voice standing clear above the harmonies...uh...which are also your voice, but you know what I mean. This song, along with others by GL like Rainy Day People, have me singing along with gusto whenever I hear it played. As always, it's a real pleasure to watch and listen to you play.
