Default So how long can you hold your breath?

Yet another good recording ruined. Where's that "remove breathing" plug-in, lol.

Like anything musical, it takes practice. best exercise is to have a big bowl of pork and beans and a large apple for dessert. Lock yourself in a small, sealed room and you'll find you can hold your breath a long time.

I think I'll try a surgical mask or something similar first.

Hi Barry

The 'chirping' of the strings if far more annoying to my ears than any breathing in your recording. I am nearing 70 yrs of age, and my ears may be more sensitive to those pitches

I like rustle from shirts and chair squeaks and string scrapes and breathing. It's nice to be reminded occasionally that the music I'm listening to is being made by a human.

Barry,

I did not find your breathing to be any kind of distraction at all in that recording, well done. Like Larry, the only distraction I heard was some string squeak. Suggestion, try a set of Thomastik Infeld Plectrums. I know they are expensive but I get 3-4 months life out of them and their warmth and balance IMO are a good fit for a lot of the music you post. The wound strings are flat wound and pretty quiet squeak wise.

Cheers,

Bob

Bob,

The recording in my signature is unrelated to this thread, but thanks for the string tip.

Me neither. Most of the time, nobody's going to hear that stuff as much as you do, if at all.

i had a friend who would breath in time while we were recording. while his timing was perfect, the breathing would mess up the recording. guess that is better than tapping your foot and having it recorded! ha!

play music!

Ask for tips from Bob Dylan, who once said he could sing as well as Caruso 'and I can hold my breath twice as long'.

I was wondering about that as that recording did not seem to have significant breathing noise issues . My only suggestions would be #1 find mics with good off axis rejection and #2 try positioning the mic/s somewhat higher with the diaphragm aiming at more of a downward angle towards the guitar (thus placing your mouth even more off axis) there is usually a reasonable compromise between placing the mic higher ( and thus potentially closer to your mouth) and finding the downward angle that puts the mouth far enough into a rejection angle to surpass any height related closeness issue from a higher orientation
Hope this make sense
