Convince me to buy this blue "companion" X30
So I have a padauk X20 and X30 on order. Super stoked.
The amazing friends at Emerald offered me a little discount on this blue X30 that I keep staring at. I ooooooooooobviously do not need two. But. They make quite a beautiful companion pair, don't they? I'm worse than Smaug the dragon, I love treasure, and the more colorful, sparkly, and precious the better. Talk me into it. (Please! Or talk sense into me!)

If I had an X20 and an X30 on order...
AND had enough spare guitar money laying about to buy that pretty blue X30... I would order an X20-12 or Baritone instead.

While I absolutely agree with the x20-12 or Bari suggestion, it may be that these somewhat niche instruments are not in the OP’s playing/repertoire comfort zone.
If you need an excuse for a companion piece OP, you might consider keeping one in an altered tuning like open D or G for slide or Kottke stuff, or dadgad for that sort of playing. Or, you would be able to enjoy seeing one sitting on a stand while playing the other. Or experiments with different string types and gauges. |

Guitars are like socks.. you can't really just have 1 piece, can you? they should ideally be paired up..
will this sentence above help you or make things worse for you? |

I don't know if you're still in St. Louis or have already moved but if you were to buy the blue X30 I could play it for you so that you could assess it's sound. Anything for a fellow St. Louis, Emerald owner!

My take ... Wait for the guitar that's speaks to you so forcefully that you don't need convincing from anyone else.

IMHO, too much overlap. Get something different. I know you wanted to be convinced to buy it, but I think you'd be better served by having another weapon in the arsenal.
BUT...if you do buy it, you're getting a gorgeous color!

"Or talk sense into me!"
You know where you are, right? In this "land of enablers," the only thing that makes sense is... well, you know. Being completely unbiased and logical: the Padauk pair are on order. The blue one is in stock and you could have it as soon as AN Post and USPS can get it to you. As long as this purchase doesn't mean you will go without food on the table or your kid's college fund gets raided... yeah, blue is nice. AND, you get it right away. No one here will think less of you if you have a blue and a padauk X30. Howzat for talking sense? |

Buy the blue X30. Here's why: It will come faster and give you something to alleviate the awful CEWDD (Custom Emerald Waiting Delivery Disorder) that you're suffering. Doubly so for you since you have two on order.
The discount offered means that you can always sell the blue X30 for close to what you paid for it! You might even find that when all the guitars are there, you like the contrast and you could sell the Padauk X30 (or X20) and come out ahead. While I was waiting for my custom X20 woody to arrive I bought a Select Series X7 because of the discount of being a return customer. This allowed me to have a nice Emerald custom woody to hold me over and when it came time to sell it I was able to recoup my entire investment in the guitar. So win-win! One thing to keep in mind, though - that bright blue in the Emerald vanity shots is not nearly as bright or blue in person. My first emerald was this color and in anything other than direct sunlight, stage light or flash photography, the color is much darker and more subdued. Here's a video I made demoing the X20 I had that shows what I mean.

If you are going for two 30s, then one should be a nylon string. Or maybe, one should be a thin-bodied electric? Or maybe a thin-bodied 30 nylon string electric??
So many possibilities..................................... ........................................ |

Do it.......... you know you wanna.
(It sure is easy to spend someone else's money, but I already have my Emeralds and it's easy for ME to be patient). |
