Default sound hole pickup /mic choices

I'm just wondering if they are any sound hole pickup /internal mic choices out there other than the Rare Earth? Or, has anyone created a DIY model?

Seymour Duncan SA-6
Mojotone NC-2

Those come to mind.

I might be trying to add an internal mic to a Fishman Rare Earth humbucker I have arriving Monday. It depends on how it sounds and what mic options I can come up with if I am not happy with the result.

I’m very curious about how well a Baggs Lyric/Mojotone NC-Passive combination would work. I currently have a Lyric and a Baggs LB6 in the same guitar (on separate jacks). That combo has been blending well, so I don’t really NEED the NC-Passive. If they truly sound as good as the demos, however, it would be a great pickup to have on hand for experiments, and as a backup pickup. (It’s very easy to temporarily install.)

Baggs M80, Schertler Magnetico with S Mic. Both are for sale in the Classifieds/Other right now from a respected forum member.

I've tried both and they are okay. I haven't had the best luck with internal mics.

I find a better combination for me is coupling a SBT (soundboard transducer) like the K&K with a quality sound hole pickup.

I've been very impressed with the K&K Pure Mini and their Double Helix Solo combo. Molly Tuttle and Billy Strings both favor this system.

Check out the system and video here and here:

Baggs has 3 M pickups. Mojotone has 2; NC-1 and NC passive. D’Armond has one. Daddario has a few. Fishman has a Blackstack. Seymour Duncan has one or two.

Good luck. I tend to like Soundhole pups better thanks USTs.

There's the Skysonic T-902 as well, for a cheaper option. Though it lacks some of the filter and stereo output options of the Fishman.

The Skysonic Pro-1 has a mic built in and an attached SBT. I like it a lot, but it needs a 9V insternal battery too

thanks for all the suggestions. I have a follow up question, has anyone tried to combine a UST with a K&K?

It’s probably best to start a new thread with that question.

BTW, I just ordered a Mojotone NC-Passive soundhole pickup. I’ll get to try out the NC-Passive/Lyric blend which I’m curious about.

Guitaniac, curious to hear your thoughts on the Mojotone passive, let us know when you've checked it out.

I’ll report on it. Every demo I’ve heard of the NC-Passive has sounded surprisingly good, but there’s no telling what the recording signal path is. They might well be miking an acoustic-friendly tube amp which is adding some nice harmonics to the signal.

The NC-Passive came today. I just wrote a lengthy commentary to answer a question in the NC-2 and NC-Passive thread.
