Cool "Everything is Free" - Welch, Rawlings, Burnett

A wonderful performance that echoes SO truthfully from the hearts and souls of these players! Gillian Welch, David Rawlings and T-Bone Burnett...

Perhaps it strikes me deeply after over 50 years of chasing song...

Pretty sure I edited your post last night so the embedding worked.

I'll edit it again.

In the future, you just need to put the video ID between the YouTube tags.

[ YOUTUBE ]31qwSm3chn4[/ YOUTUBE ]

but remove the extra spaces.

Thanks for the help with the video! Weird, I used to be able to do it fine, but lately I have had no luck... I will try the method you mentioned, tho'... Can I use the "YT wrap" option on the advanced thread skin to do that?

Always like the feelings and thoughts in that song. Thanks.

T-Bone doesn’t hurt anything - he takes a nice turn. But really, Welch and Rawlings are just about a perfect duo. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone join them and actually improve on what they do together…

The greatest line ever written.

"We were gonna do it anyway, even if it doesn't pay."

Yep, that's a good one, all right... there are more than a couple memorable lines in this song, for sure...

"Never minded working hard;
it's who I'm working for..."

That is another favorite of mine.

I have to say, this song has stuck in my head and resonated strongly ever since I first heard it a few weeks ago. It's not that I'm thinking of doing a version of it, more like the thing just keeps rolling around inside my head!

I've gone down the path of checking out other performances and songs from Gillian and David, and thoroughly enjoyed them... but this one really reverberates deeply...

Actually, there are at least 4 chords in this song, not counting the nice inversion of the V chord that's played more like a VII-7b5 chord, only once in the first solo guitar passage...

Nit-picking, I know, but there you are! Really glad you enjoyed the song... it is still stuck in my head, after weeks have passed since my first listening...

Haven't heard this song in a couple of years and am reminded how beautiful it is, and how well written too. Her "Time (The Revelator)" album was always in heavy rotation for me, hard to believe it's 20+ years old now. A splendid trip down memory lane for me, thank you for posting the video.
Slighly off topic, but maybe not - so much is written here on the AGF about gear and upgrades and such, and I see 2 basic Kyser capos and her J50 has what appears to be the "tone killing" adjustable saddle still present...and I love it!

Yep, they don't do a thing about amplifying their guitars... no pickups, no pedals, no nothing... just a couple mics pointed in the right direction, and those don't even appear to be anything fancy! I love it!

Of course, it helps that folks are all generally listening to what they are playing and singing... they aren't fighting the noise in a crowded bar where folks aren't there to hear ME play!

I was shocked to find that this song had been written a couple decades ago... hard to believe that I missed it, back then. I may have to get "Time (The Revelator)" on CD...
