Default My Current Top Three Tones (video comparison)!

My current top 3 ‘plugged in acoustic’ tones. Which do you prefer and can you suggest something better?

Hi Aaron. Personally, I dig the Cole Clark pickup system the most, very present and up front.

I thought the K&K w Baggs VPDI sounded very good, 2nd to the CC.

I was disappointed in the Lyric tone, thought it was a bit distant and hollow in comparison to the other 2 systems. Perhaps if I heard it without a comparison, I might have liked it.

Sorry, I can't give any suggestions as to a better system.

Thank you. Yes the Lyric is a mic so it has a more ‘distant’ sound.

I liked the K&K and VPDI best. I’m a bit biased as this is what I use.

I liked the ColeClark, but if you increased the volume on the K&K i am sure i would have preferred it to the CC. Honestly either one would be quite good in the wild, just not #2.

All the best, Aarron.

Not fully getting the Cole Cark love. I think it would be great on stage but in this test, it's the least natural sounding. I think this shows that a lot of people still really like a bit of that piezo tone.

I thought the K&K was the best, but I would potentially take the blend down a bit as I feel it's thinning out/brightening the tone too much. I am starting to lean towards a K&K/VP set up with a sound hole cover. I don't love sound hole covers but the K&K is hard to beat.

This should sell even more K&K pickups.

This should sell more LR Baggs Voiceprint DIs. My $299 Ibanez sounds like a $2k plugged in through mine.

I find it hard to use the K&K without the VPDI...

Yes , the Cole Clark is impressive, but there is just something about the k&k that sounds more natural to me. The lyric was my least favorite , sounds boxy .

For me, the K&K/VPDI by a mile. Without the VPDI, I might like the Cole Clark about equally as well, but for different reasons. I’m not partial to most K&K installations without an IR treatment, due to the lower mid/upper bass hump that I hear so often. That Baggs pickup has never appealed to me. I like the Anthem a great deal and was a very early adopter, but not that pickup.

My current favorite setup is James’ UltraTonic/ToneDexter combination, now used in my four best guitars (three Mike Baraniks and a Martin LJ).

Cheers,
Jenn
