Smile 2014 John Allison OMc 14 German/Palo Escrito. SOLD AGF, THANKS!!!

SOLD AGF, thanks all!

Very cool Allison for your consideration.

Cost $5,600 new!

Was $3575, then, $3,150... then $XXXX Now SOLD ON AGF!!!

Sporting a monster Tim Luranc set up!!!

Let's see it this gets her gone... will drop again on Reverb soon!

New pics of rolled FB edge and new bone compensated saddle now on Reverb.
See last 4 pics on Reverb.

3/22/17:
Back from my Pal Tim Luranc ( Former Head Luther for R.Taylor and Senior Repair Tech at Taylor El Cajon) this evening. He LOVES THIS GUITAR. He just filed the Nut a bit and did a complete setup with a new bone saddle, and rolled the fretboard edges.. This adds considerably to the already nice playability! The minor ding at the first fret is almost gone now. New invisible lacquer FB edge touch up.
Very near mint condition now! Sounds wonderful and VERY LOUD!

Action, and playability are outstanding now. Frets show zero wear after a small buff. Neck angle is very good.

There may be SMALL signs of handling visible in the right light but it appears pretty much as new!

In excellent condition, received in a fun AGF trade, but need to sell to pay for incoming custom build from John Kinnaird.

Real ALL about it on Reverb:

https://reverb.com/item/4609948-john-allison-omc

As always, any help with pics here greatly appreciated!

Play on and tune often!

Cheers

Paul

I think it is there now...

Thanks Dtune.

Wink John Allison OMc

This was my go-to guitar for the last year, so I highly suggest buying this guitar. Also my second trade with Paul and he's the best to deal with and guitar talk!

Amazing build quality here; checkout how the neck joins the cutaway at the heel. Tone is full and even as the Palo Escrito is a lighter/dryer RW, this one with gorgeous straight grain. Good for any style of play. Sounds great finger-style and really comes alive with headroom when flat-picking.

John Allison spent many years at Collings and has been building his own creations since 2004. Think of this OM being Collings like, plus handmade quality with soul in its tone!

German and Palo Escrito - very unusual. I've never run across Palo Escrito in my travels! Care to comment on the comparables tone wise?

Smile Palo Escrito

Thanks for the pics Birdsong. Bird IS the word...

Thanks for the kind words JD! Right back at ya! We have done three fun trades now!!! Woohoo

Well, Dale, of course every axe is different. That said, it seems to me like a very nice RW but a bit more dry and less scooped in the mids. Perhaps the proverbial cross between Indian and Mahogany... and of course German Spruce for the top is a major tone addition.

Actually JD played it way more than I have. Care to comment JD?

It is indeed very light compared to Indian. Some of the weight loss may be due to John A's light build and what appears to be a thin finish. I assume these add more TONE. It has plenty of whomp.

Whatever the reason it sounds REAL NICE INDEED!

Cheers

Paul

Wink It would be hard to find a better OM in this price range!

Paul, as far as a verbal description of tone, which is always difficult, I concour with your well written opinion. More so...

When I first played this guitar a year ago January at Hearts Home acoustics, Boerne TX, I started out playing finger-style, given this is an OM. It sounded very good, even across its range. A good mix of fundamentals with the overtones that an OM-sized body can produce. Palo Escrito is a form of Mexican Rosewood, so it has some RW attributes, but it is much lighter than EIR. After 20 min, I pulled a pick out of my jeans watch pocket, and then WOW - WHAT a VOICE! Within the next few minutes, I decided to buy this one immediately and put money down before lunch hour that day!

Palo is used extensively in Mexico and surrounding areas for many kinds of instruments, though mainly in classical guitars. Some Texas based luthiers, John Allison being one, use it as a sort of local wood. Palo Escrito can be yellow or green in tint, yet this set is a beautiful straight-grained medium brown. Here's one of my pictures showing the detail of the wood grain.

Look at that SWEET guitar! Wow, I really like that one. I can only imagine that if Paul and JD have both been owners, it is REALLY good stuff.

Someone ought to grab this one.
I can say that Paul is a splendid fellow, and yes a friend...might I add a friend, to all who come along because he treats people with honor and you just can't help but love the guy . He's the best. And...there just "ain't nobody" packs a guitar to ship better than Paul.

Buy with confidence.
