FYI, Taking the weekend off to work on Adrianne’s “Chouse”. I’ll be back on your build again on Monday.

Chouse - Noun. chouse (plural chouses) (obsolete) One who is easily cheated; a gullible person.

Maybe I should not ask.

Now that’s funny. I’ve never looked the word up and thought it was unique to us. Our daughter Adrianne purchased a small red brick church built in 1880 which she is in the process of converting into a house ...

Church & House = “Chouse”, at least in our household

Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the laugh.

Always good to take a break (if you can call Chouse work a break). Sounds like Adrienne is making some progress (with your help).

Late to the party but looking awesome, and that’s from one of the few other owners of a McKnight SSD! So few dare to go slim! Wonder if you will even let me touch it at the next McJam?

Let there be no doubt, I want your opinion on this one. You've got the instrument this was patterned after. Looking forward to your playing it at McJam!!

Perhaps you should call it a "Hourch" (although I like the sound of "Chouse," if not the definition). Appreciate a new word being added to my vocabulary, regardless.

Looking forward to test-driving this one, along with Dennis's build.

Back at it today. We have binding cleanup and cutting the access for the bolt on neck including a video.

Tape removal. Wax on - wax off. Tape on - tape off.

Then shaving and scraping the bindings level with the top and back.

Some sanding to clean and level everything.

Next preparing the body for connection to the bolt on neck. I've watched Tim do this first part several times but this time I was a little more nervous. Video

I'm headed off to church for my guitar fellowship. Check in with you folks tomorrow.

Tim, that guitar is looking great! You nailed the rosette! I can't believe you held the rims of the guitar to the belt sander! Was the belt actually running? If so, that would scare me to death.

Ken

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the kind compliment. Yes, the belt was running and yes, the first time I did it, it scared me to dead too. When cutting the binding channels I leave them a couple thou shallow so the bindings will be proud of the sides, after the glue dries. Its a LOT easier scraping bindings flush to the sides than scraping the sides flush with low bindings

As our bodies age, some difficult manual tasks challenge one's mind to find easier and more efficient ways of doing them, hence belt sanding bindings instead of scraping them. I use VERY light pressure against the sanding belt because one mistake and its not easy to add material back. Its also advisable to keep a close eye between the rim sides and the belt to ensure they are parallel to each other. The waist still requires scraping and but 75% of the work is done by machine so its a lot easier on my body this way.

Tim, where did you get that jig? I tried making something similar and it - and the results - didn't come out too good at all.

Good question Neil. I would need a $20K machine to mill that little binding jig. I purchased mine from Chris Ensor. Look at this thread for more info:

If I was Cigarfan I couldn’t look! That’s such a nice 1959 top! Should sing!

For the peg head, the off cuts from the back will be used for the front plate.

Here Tim and I were going over finish options for the peg head.

The book matched pieces are joined and thicknessed.
